My run in with Chris Hardwick

Last week I was a guest on the Greg Fitzsimmons radio show, and podcast with Chris Hardwick. I first met Greg when he was the host of the AVN awards show a few years ago. He is always very pleasant and funny and I think he has been the best comedian to host the show in the past few years that I have gone.

So who the hell is Chris Hardwick??

Well, You might remember him as the TV host who was not Jenny McCarthy or on  the MTV dating show in the 90’s called Singled Out. Or you may have seen his gadget review segment on G4TV’s Attack of the Show… or perhaps you have seen some of his stand- up comedy. He’s a nice guy, he is moderately attractive… if you were with a group of people at the same restaurant as him – one person in the group would most likely recognize him, point it out, and then the rest of the people in the group would be like, “oh yeah- that guy” and continue eating.

Well while I was on the radio show Greg mentioned how excited he was that he had just reached 10 thousand followers on twitter. I excitedly then bragged and talked about how I had over 25 thousand. Greg made a few jokes and said how he busts his ass doing comedy 5 nights a week and gets 10 thousand followers and I suck some dick on camera and get over 25 thousand. Even though sucking dick on camera is just one of the zillion of things I do in the porn industry, I laughed and went along with it because it was not intended to be offensive.

Chris sat there quietly. I asked him what his twitter was, expected to look it up- and then do a little happy dance on the air over being the person with the most followers in the room. But boy oh boy – my twitter ego (can we call that “tweego” or something?)  definitely got a run for its money.

Chris Hardwick (or @nerdist) has over 1 million followers on twitter.

I swear! I kid you not. Last week I posted pictures of two very well known celebrities in my blog – Vince Neil and Travis Barker. The two of them combined have less followers than Chris Hardwick. He also has more followers than the entire cast of the Jersey Shore, Kendra Wilkinson, and twice as many as the girl who sings that “Tik Tok” song with a $ instead of an S in her name. All these people can’t leave their houses without being chased down by the paparazzi.

I became slightly obsessed with Chris Hardwicks twitter.

Greg kept asking me questions about running a company, and fucking dudes on camera… and I kept reverting the conversation back to talking about Chris Hardwick’s twitter. I figured- ok- maybe he just follows hundreds of thousands of people… and they all followed him back- like some of those other twitter spammers? And then I looked. Nope. He only follows a handful of people and his followers are genuine Chris Hardwick fans…. not robots of sorts.

Well I don’t even know what to say. I had no idea that someone could be so incredibly famous and not be on a reality TV show, or not be involved in some kind of sex scandal, or be the artist responsible for an annoying catchy song that gets stuck in your head and played in clubs every 10 seconds. It’s good to know that there are about one million people out there who admire someone else who is nerdy, smart, funny….. and appeared in mostly respectable TV shows and movies. I have some kind of confused and renewed faith in the world and I don’t even know what to do with it.
