@JoannaAngel did you really work at an applebees like your wikipedia page says so? If so then which one?

Yes!! I totally did work at an Applebee’s. I worked there for about a year- when I was a junior in college. I believe I worked there from the year 2001- 2002. It was in Piscataway, NJ. You can uh, go there if you want? I am pretty sure no one that I worked with is still there. They had a pretty high turn-over rate. I liked working there, it was good extra money for a girl in college. I used to come home from there smelling like nachos. I was also a very mediocre waitress because at the time I was an avid pot smoker. I apologize to anyone who is reading this and came in and got served by me- and got the wrong food.

I drove a really crappy car in college. It was a 1988 Pontiac Bonneville. It was handed down from my dad when I was in High School. It had a good run but- after a few years it just broke down every day. I lived in New Brunswick, NJ which was about a 10 minute drive from the Applebee’s in Piscataway. One day while I was driving to work my car just stopped working. I did all the usual things I did to it to try to make it restart and it just wasn’t working with me. I called AAA and the tow truck drove me to work, and I got a ride home from someone else. I decided after that day that I should probably get a job somewhere in walking distance from my house because I did not want to continue to get rides from tow truck drivers to work. And that was the end of my Applebee’s career!

@JoannaAngel do you think a bit of comedy in your films sells better?

Well, kind of- but not really. Some people love the comedy in my movies, but on the other hand, it turns a lot of other people away. I get told all the time by my distributors that my movies are more goofy than they are sexy, and I know it’s true. We don’t really have a lot of those quintessential sexy shots that people want to see in porn in my movies. If my goal was just to make a dollar than my entire company would be way different. With the type of porn that I make, I will never have as many consumers as a traditional porn site will have but the ones I do are extremely loyal. I love making comedic porn, and quite frankly- I think it’s sexy. A good sense of humor in someone really turns me on – so I try to translate that feeling I get when someone tells me a good joke into my porn. And also- whenever I try to do that sexy catwalk that other porno girls are so damn good at I feel so awkward, and I know from looking at it, that I look awkward. I feel way more natural in a situation on camera when I have a goofy interaction with someone else and then we fuck like rabbits. I can’t try to pretend I’m someone that I am not. So yeah…in a nutshell, I don’t think comedy sells my films better but this is who I am, this is what turns me on, and this is the type of porn I want to make so god damn it I will continue to make it!

I will be honest, I did not know what “puttenesca” sauce was until 10 seconds ago when I Google searched it. I looked it up and then got really hungry. It looked pretty yummy. I probably would have called it “tomato sauce with olives in it”. I do like marinara sauce, but I am obviously not as well versed in my pasta sauces as you are my friend! One time I was lucky enough to have eaten at a Mario Batali restaurant in Las Vegas- and I ordered pasta from there that had mushrooms, truffle oil, and some creamy stuff in it and it was definitely the best pasta AND pasta sauce I had ever had. I don’t know what it was called, if I would have to give it a name I would call it “mushroom orgasm.”

I will be honest- that is not the best tattoo I have ever seen in my life but it’s pretty cool that you got a “13″ tattoo on Friday the 13th. My good friend BaBa’s shop (Vintage Tattoo in Highland Park CA) had $13 13 tattoos on Friday the 13th. Did you get it there? @JoannaAngel Do guy performers get such a shitty deal in the porn industry as it’s made out?

I am not answering this question because I want to answer this question but because I get asked it 10000 times and I don’t even know why. It is one of the top 5 questions I get asked at porn conventions. Not exactly in this way but people say “it sucks and it’s totally unfair that guys make so much less than girls” or “is it true that guys get paid nothing and girls get paid a shitload?”

Guys do not get a shitty deal in porn. If you were just about to start some kinda non-profit organization that donates money to the poor guys in porn, then please, direct your efforts elsewhere.  When you think about it, it’s pretty fair. A girl gets paid more money per scene because ultimately her image is what will be selling the movie. Yes, guys do have fans and people do prefer some guys in porn more than other guys- but if someone is a fan of a certain girl they will watch their scene no matter who they are fucking. So yeah, girls sell the movie, so they make more money per scene.

Girls however do not work as much as guys do and girls also do not usually have as long of a career span as guys. If you look on my website, I have about 250 girls on there throughout the network and only about 8- 10 guys. I use the same guys over and over, whereas I constantly need an influx of new and different girls. I am not discrediting us porn hoes but I really do think almost any girl could do porn if she wanted to – whereas only certain guys can do porn. You have to do something as a job that is basically inhuman and defies some very basic physical laws of nature. Not every man is born with the ability to get an erection and cum on command, with a dick that is about 6 inches or more. As a result of this, there aren’t THAT many guys in porn and there are a shitload of girls, so the guys do a lot more scenes than girls do. When someone is casting a movie, there are only a handful of guys to choose but there is an endless amount of girls. If you happen to be one of the 15 guys who can actually perform on camera, you will be working pretty often- way more often than if you are one of the 5000 hot girls who likes getting fucked on film.

I don’t mean to sound harsh- but if a girl has to cancel on a scene… I can replace her fairly easily with another girl. If a guy cancels, there is a good chance I will have to move the entire shoot to a date that acomidates with his schedule.  I work with a few guys very regularly who are in their early 50’s- I definitely can’t say the same about the girls I work with. So yeah, guys make less per scene but other than a few instances when the girl is a huge superstar – I think in the long run men make more overall if you consider the amount of money made throughout their career.  The only guys in porn who are flat broke- are the ones who can’t get their penises hard on camera, or have tendency to piss off the girls they work with and get put on every girl’s “no” list (yes girls are all allowed to have lists of people they don’t want to work with!!)  and they usually don’t last in the industry for very long.

So there you go. There was 100 and 1 reasons of why guys in porn are fine and the few hundred dollars less they make per scene is totally fair.

@JoannaAngel Have you ever thought about having a sit at a desk type job? Or is there a job you always wanted to try?

SO! You wanna know what I did all week? I sat at a desk. Wanna know what I will be doing next week? Sitting at a desk. Wanna know what I will be doing the week after that? Well, for like 4 days I will be on set but for the remainder of the week, I will be sitting at a desk. I do spend a lot of time sitting at a desk. I do own my company, and it takes a lot of phone calls, emails, and meetings to keep this company going. The same types of things a lot of you nine to fiver’s do all the time- only I am like, a 8am till midnight-er instead of a 9 to 5er. The internet doesn’t close, so when you have 8 websites there is always an endless amount of work to do. I think I do enough desk sitting and I have no desire to work any other kind of desk sitting job. The only thing I kinda wanna do that I haven’t explored much is be a hip hop artist. You think I am joking! I may be a white Jewish girl but I am so down it’s not even funny! I did get to write one hip hop song with some friends for the intro credits of “it’s big, it’s black, it’s inside Joanna” and I had a lot of fun doing it. I would love to make an entire album one day. Not really as a “job” but just for fun.

I don’t want to have a career outside of porn- unless, some terrible tragedy occurs and my company goes out of business. If that ever happened, i think I would have to leave porn. I don’t think I would stick around and be an independent contractor- or a contract girl for another company, the way most girls are in the industry. I think the industry is a great place, and I do not look down upon all the girls and guys who do have that career path (I mean- my own boyfriend … James Deen works for a different porn company every day! ) but that is not the path I want to take. It is not because women are degraded or mistreated in “mainstream porn” (I have been on many porn sets and the girls are always treated with respect) but I could not comfortably be “Joanna Angel” without “BurningAngel.” I have a very particular creative vision, and I don’t want to be part of someone else’s creative vision in this industry- which is the reason I choose not to work for other companies.  I guess I am just a stubborn bitch when it comes down to it! I don’t even want to think about that scary “what if” situation, but I did graduate college and I have learned a lot throughout the years and I do have a decent amount of valuable skills. So if that abomination of a “what if” did happen I know I have plenty of other options
