I landed in Newark , New Jersey around 4 PM Friday afternoon. I went to my mother’s house for dinner (sorry, there will absolutely NOT be photos of my mother in this journal entry -  so don’t even think about asking!!!) . Every Friday night, religious Jews do this thing called “Shabbat Dinner”.  It really just involves saying a bunch of prayers and then eating…so yeah, that’s what I did. When I was in high school I loathed Shabbat dinner. Man. Having to do something with your mom and dad every Friday night when you’re young – and punk – is awful. But in my older age, it’s kinda fun and it makes my mother really happy. I don’t believe in 90% of the shit that is said in the prayers, but that’s not what it’s about at this point. There is actually one particular song that is sang on Shabbat that is a special praise for all the women at the table who “cooked and cleaned and prepared the meal all day.” It’s so amazingly against everything I stand for that it’s actually awesome.

After the dinner I went up to Manhattan and went to Jessie Lee’s party at Trash. I don’t know if you knew this, but Jessie doesn’t drink. She did when I first met her, but stopped shortly afterward. She is uh…”straight- edge”. This worked out very well for me…because as a party host, she got a free bottle of vodka, which conveniently got donated to me since she is all, you know, moral and stuff. I had a fun time…I drank and danced and saw a lot of old friends, and stayed out till like 8 am. I don’t go out and dance much in LA. For whatever reason I am just way too self-conscious there. The nightlife in New York is something I always miss when I am in LA. There just isn’t anything that compares to it out there.

Anyways, here’s a few pics from the party.

I slept till about 3:30 pm on Saturday. I can’t even remember the last time I did that.

Then on Sunday, I went shopping at one of my favorite stores in New York called “Top Shop” I got some high-waisted shorts and some new shoes and some other things in case you care to know. I did get a pair of bright orange shoes that I love, but I now have no idea what to wear them with. I need to buy a bright orange belt, or a bright orange bag or something. I hope this does not all come across as me looking like some kind of crack-head raver from the 90s. I need to find a way to pull off neon orange tactfully!!! I hope it is possible. All my clothing is black, and sometimes pink. I thought it was time for a change.  Here’s me taking advantage of the Top Shop “personal shopping program” where they let you sit in a room while they bring you clothes and coffee.  Anyone can do it.  And it was AWESOME!

It was a beautiful day outside, too.

I just got off a plane! I’m in New Jersey now…. my flight left at 7 am LA-time, which meant I had to leave my place at 4:30 in the morning to get to the airport on time. I didn’t really get to sleep much last night so I slept on the airplane. I am SO GOOD at sleeping on airplanes. I thought you should know that. I just curl up into a ball and fall asleep. It looks kinda like this (please forgive my appearance here – I have no makeup on and I hadn’t gotten any sleep in this pic!):

I will be heading up to New York City later tonight. I’m really happy to be back on the east coast. Tonight I will be at my good friend DJ Jess’s party at Webster Hall. Jessie Lee will be hosting…so if you don’t have plans tonight, come out and hang out with us.

Then next week I will be doing a signing at this awesome little novelty store in Brooklyn, called SHAG. Come see me if you are all gangster and shit and like to hang out in Brooklyn like I do.

Last night, I went to a hardcore show!!!! It’s been awhile since I went to one of these. Kinda weird -  it was in a very big venue, the Palladium in Hollywood.  It was actually the same venue that the XBiz Awards were in…kinda weird…right? I guess it’s not that weird. Haha.

The bands that played were Pierce the Veil, A Day to Remember, Bring me the Horizon and We Came as Romans. They are all kinda newer hardcore/metal bands. I will be honest; I don’t really listen to any of them, but I’ve heard of them all and heard them randomly on Sirius radio while I’m driving and stuff. There aren’t THAT many newer hardcore bands I listen to.

I spent my entire life going to shows. Some of the friends I met along the way are still my closest friends today. Back in my day (oy – that made me sound old!),  Dillinger Escape Plan was a smaller band… and bands like endeavor, Good Clean Fun, His Hero’s Gone, and Converge were on almost every bill. Those were not the only bands obviously, but those are the first ones that came to my head. In those days, shows I went to were at squats, and smaller VFW halls and small clubs that usually got shut down every 6 months.

A few years later, hardcore got a little bigger – this was around the time BurningAngel started and I went to some bigger shows where I saw like, Every Time I Die, Killswitch Engage, Poison the Well, Bleeding Through. I went to a lot of festivals and stuff…they were big, but they weren’t sponsored by huge promotional companies like GoldenVoice or Live Nation or anything like that.

This show last night…well it was HUGE. It was a big venue that was completely sold out. When the headlining band came on (A Day to Remember), they had one of those big nets of balloons explode all over the kids, and confetti, and big smoke stacks appear though the stage where the band members stood in and looked like some resurrection of Motley Crue. It was kinda nuts!

I feel like a person my age is supposed to think this stuff is lame, or a big sell-out, or a terrible transgression of what music used to be. But you know what? I didn’t feel that way at all. This place was “sold out” but I will admit, the same energy that I felt when I was younger, being at hardcore shows, was still there. Everyone was going crazy, piling on top of each other, singing all the words to every song, crowd surfing and moshing and stuff. I looked at everyone from the balcony like some kind of old lady, and it made me happy. Granted, this music was a little cheesy, but whatever…

Last night was a little release party for a new movie we just released called “Jessie Lee vs. Misti Dawn” . You can get it HERE!

It’s a compilation of all of my favorite scenes from two of my favorite BurningAngel girls, Misti Dawn and Jessie Lee. They are scenes that have been on the web, but not on DVD yet. So it’s still new to a bunch of you! There are some funny little slides between the scenes with silly images of me “judging” them. I don’t know if this is bad business to give away the ending but…I will do it anyways. It’s a tie!!!!

I just want to say I am SO HAPPY Jessie Lee was able to attend this party. I really a, so grateful every day that she is alive. Jessie is still recovering, but she did mention something about wanting to shoot again sometime in the near future. I sure hope she can!

I think Luke Perry might’ve been at the party – is this him!?!

It’s amazing how tragedy can bring people together!

Really. It’s pretty cool. See- here is me and a model from a competing Alt website kissing at the BurningAngel/ Darling House benefit for Jessie Lee at the Darling House in New York City.
